SUMMARY:WMSS: Altitude Physiology & Altitude Illness
DESCRIPTION:https://fb.me/e/1IXqZ62Dq\nPlease join WMSS at our academic event exploring what can go wrong when you go too far up! Clearly, that’s a major oversimplification of the complexity of altitude physiology and illness, so we’ve invited Dr Brenton Systermans (ACRRM registrar) to explain it to us.Brent will break it down through the lens of his wide-ranging experiences across the world, including in the Himalayas, the European Alps, on Mount Kilimanjaro and even our own Snowy Mountains. If you’re interested in sports medicine, you definitely have something to learn from Brent!\nNot only is Brent a keen mountaineer, skier, trail runner and cyclist, he has also worked on the Professional Cycling tour for US team CCB Velotooler AND at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games with the Australian Olympic team. And if you’re interested in expedition medicine, general practice and emergency medicine, Brent’s insights will undoubtedly be fascinating – he’s spent time on deployment with the Australian Army, worked at altitude with the Himalayan Rescue Association and Everest ER and been part of the Australian Antarctic Division!\nWe look forward to having MD1s-MD4s join Brent and WMSS next Wednesday.DATE/TIME: 7pm, Wednesday 18th MayWHERE: Zoom (https://unimelb.zoom.us/j/85295921142… Password: 174586)\n
